A ribbon cutting ceremony and open house were held Friday at DMACC’s new education center..
The Southridge Center will offer academic, career and educational services.
As the name suggests, the new facility is located in the old 65,000 square foot JC Penney store in Southridge Mall.
Developers say making an educational facility an anchor store is a new idea, but one other communities might benefit from.
“It actually could be a new paradigm for communities across the US to introduce uses of this nature to revitalize shopping centers built 40 years ago that today are being recycled into others types of uses,” says Arthur Coppola.
The project cost just under $12 million to transform the store into a learning facility.
