Two armed robbers, walked into a Walgreens on SE 14th Street armed with a handgun and a knife. Des Moines police say one of the suspects held a store employee at knife point, demanding money.

After the suspects grabbed the cash, they ran out of the stores front door and into a wooded area at the intersection of park and SE 17th Street. Police say when suspects flee on foot they release the K-9 Unit. Police were able to catch and arrest 33 year old Joseph Atterberry.

“The dog was sent in just ahead of the officers. The dog located the suspect and bit him on the ankle and shortly after that he was taken into custody,” says Sgt. Jason Halifax.

Police say Atterberry has a plastic Walgreens bag with the cash inside and a fake silver handgun. Police have not disclosed how much money was stolen.
The other suspect in the robbery is still on the loose. If you have any information regarding the incident, contact Polk County Crime Stoppers at 515- 223-1400.
