Des Moines-based Kemin Industries dedicated its newest expansion Monday.
The company held a ribbon cutting at its research and development operations. The $17 million project is part of a previously announced $40 million expansion.
Kemin uses scientific enhancements to improve food nutrition.
Kemin’s president and CEO praised the state’s commitment toward recruiting young people to get into the science, technology, engineering and math fields.
“The jobs that we have here at Kemin and the scientists you see here today all made a choice sometime in their lives that they were interested in science and technology. It’s rigorous, it requires lots of work, but the rewards are incredible,” says Chris Nelson with Kemin.
The company had planned to add 99 jobs as it moves toward finishing its expansion, but it’s already added 137.
