DRUG DOG: Walcott Gets Help To Stop Trafficking
A four-legged friend is helping catch those suspected of trafficking drugs through Scott County on I-80.
Monday was Titan’s first day on the police force in Walcott. The town is home to the world’s largest truck stop, with more than 30,000 vehicles passing through every day.
The two and a half year old Czech Shepard is able to sniff out marijuana, cocaine, meth and other drugs. Police Chief Jeff Blake says the new addition should help them in the fight against drug traffic in the area.
“A large drug corridor with multiple gas stations, restaurants and hotels in our area, felt it would be great to have a dog to hopefully intercept some of those loads,” says Blake.
Cheif Blake says titan will also be trained to find missing children. Titan was trained in Des Moines.
