An oil spill on Des Moines’ north side caused a traffic mess.

Authorities say a tanker truck full of used oil spilled near Delaware and East Euclid Ave. around noon Thursday. Officials say it appears the lid wasn’t fastened and the oil splashed out.

A garbage truck drove into the oil and slid into another car causing minor damage.

Parts of eastbound Euclid were closed for several hours for clean-up. Southbound portions of Delaware, both south and north of Euclid Avenue, were also closed.

Officials put down sand in the area to soak up the oil.

All of roads have since re-opened.
