More eyes will be on the water over Labor Day weekend.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is taking extra precautions despite having said Labor Day weekend is just as busy as any other summer weekend.
Patrol officers are boating their way around the Mississippi River checking fishing permits, safety equipment and looking for drunken boaters.
“Our overall goal is to make sure people are operating their boat safely and making sure they are taking those precautions ahead of time, like having a designated driver and all their safety equipment on board,” said Department of Natural Resources Officer Nate Johnson.
DNR Officers said on average they write two to three citations every weekend.
