AGRIBUSINESS: This Year’s Severe Weather Conditions May Help In The Future
The floods and droughts of this year may end up helping farmers in the future.
Researchers are taking advantage of the bad weather conditions by testing lines and separating out the good from the bad with severe conditions; something that would not have been as easy with ideal weather conditions.
USDA Researcher Dr. John Burke said through this he has found traits that determine post-drought flowering and cold resistance. Burke said he is trying to combine these with a mutant trait that can triple seed numbers per head along with double seed weight per head.
