MORE CASES: Spread Of Cryptosporidium Continues

Though pool season is winding down, cryptosporidium is still spreading.

Doctors are reporting 165 new cases of crypto in the past week. Now, there’s a total of 703 cases statewide.

Polk County has the highest number of cases with 282.

The parasite causes severe diarrhea for up to 30 days. It is found on surfaces contaminated with infected animal or human feces.

Health officials say it spread through public pools this summer and now some are worried about it spreading through schools.

Proper handwashing will help protect you from catching it.
