A Des Moines man has been arrested after leading police on two chases this week.

Police say 25-year-old John Pierce led officers on a chase earlier this week, but they were not able to catch him. Friday morning, Pierce’s luck ran out.

Officers were watching the car from the previous chase and saw Pierce and a female get into the vehicle. Police tried to stop the car, but Pierce kept on driving.

The chase started around 8:30 a.m. in the 1600 block of Dean, continued to westbound I-235, and then exited the interstate at 31st Street. Pierce turned onto westbound Ingersoll Avenue and the chase was called off by the watch commander.

Officers continued in the vehicle’s last known direction of travel in case Pierce ditched the car and ran. They found the car with the female still inside and she told them which direction Pierce ran. They found him a short time later trying to hide in a garage and he was arrested.

Pierce is in the Polk County Jail charged with eluding, third degree burglary, carrying weapons, and several traffic charges. He was also wanted on a parole violation.
