On Sunday family and friends hosted a benefit to help the family of a Des Moines man beaten to death by a group last month.
Heather Daughenbaugh says her children were robbed, when their father was murdered.
“There’s a lot of pinnacle moments that my children will always need their dads for, marriages, having children and for the boys’ just daily advice on what means on becoming a man, for the girls protection from daddy. They will never have that.”
Since her husband’s death, she has struggled financially to provide for her family.
At the benefit, more than 1,500 dollars was raised in donations and raffles. Daugenbaugh says that money will go towards the children.
“The support of the kids is most important, meeting their needs on a daily basis.”
Daughenbaugh says she applauds the four men who were charged with Daughenbaugh’s death but still questions their motives.
“It makes a person wonder, they're so young, why would they through their life away for a man they didn’t even know.”
