An underused and overlooked area of Johnston could soon get a makeover.
Merle Hay Road is a gateway to the city of Johnston but it isn’t a welcoming sight.
Johnston leaders have a plan to change that.
The area in question starts at I-80 north to Northwest 55th Avenue.
Currently its home to a car dealership and a new hotel but it’s neighbored by a vacant hotel and diner – other businesses the Johnston City Council feels are underutilized.
The council wants to redevelop that hotel with a marquee project and improve the entire area to create a better entrance into the city of Johnston.
The project was presented to Johnston residents, Monday evening.
The council will consider input from the meeting before it brings up the issue at its meeting next Tuesday.
