A body found in the Mississippi River Monday is believed to be that of an Iowa snowmobiler who went missing in 2011.

KWWL reports a body was found in the river a few miles north of Sabula by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during a routine dredging operation. The body was found wearing a snowmobile suit and Jackson County officials believe the body belongs to 23-year-old Shawn Berthel of Jackson County.

Berthel was snowmobiling with friends on the Maquoketa River in January of 2011 when his snowmobile broke through the ice. Searchers found the snowmobile but didn’t find Berthel.

An autopsy is still needed to confirm the identity of the body, but Jackson County Sheriff Russ Kettmann says officials were sure enough about the identity to contact Berthel’s parents.
