Most of the audience at a September 11th memorial ceremony in eastern Iowa wasn’t even born yet when the Twin Towers collapsed in 2001.
Bettendorf students at Rivermont Collegiate School are learning a history lesson Wednesday as they remember the fallen heroes. Bettendorf’s fire captain and police chief were also at the morning event.
The students held a moment of silence and also said the pledge of allegiance.
The school’s headmaster, Todd Zachary, says the ceremony’s theme was to remember the first responders.
“Whether it’s the Port Authority or the fire department and the police department of New York, but also there are ordinary citizens who can help a person in need, and certainly, we saw that on 9/11,” says Zachary.
