MUSIC GRANT: Johnston Rotary Gives Money For Band Students
The Johnston Rotary Club is hosting its annual barbecue on Thursday.
But along with the cheeseburgers, the group is giving is its annual grant.
This year’s grant recipient is the Johnston Community School Foundation, particularly the Beginning Band Instrument Initiative. The money will go to benefit those children who may not be able to join the band because of financial reasons.
The initiative has been active in Johnston schools for more than five years, according to band teacher Josh Morgan.
“There are close to 1,000 students in grades five through 12 in the Johnston band program,” Morgan said.
“In the time I’ve been involved with the beginner band program there have been around 150 students who benefit from the instruments we’ve given them. We only expect that number to grow in coming years,” Morgan said.
The Rotary Club’s barbeque will be held at the Simpson Barn in Johnston from 5 until 7 p.m.
