A 14-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was hit by a car Wednesday night in Des Moines.

It happened just after 8:00 p.m. while Michael Gill was crossing a busy street.

Friends of Gill say they were crossing Army Post Road at the corner of Southwest 7th when he was hit.

“We was running across the street trying to catch the bus right there and my friend Michael was the last one then the last one to come across the street then we stopped because he got hit by a car. Only thing I got to see was him up in the air,” says witness Jonathan Edwards.

Witnesses say Gill was unconscious, but was breathing when paramedics took him to the hospital. He is in critical condition at Blank Children’s Hospital.

Rescuers also took the driver of the car to the hospital because she was upset and distraught about the crash.

No charges are being filed in the incident.
