HOUSE FIRE: Ames Fireplace Causes Damage

An Ames fire that started burning in a fireplace caused thousands in damage when it started to spread out.

The fire started just before 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning on Beedle Drive, officials said.

When crews got there they found light smoke and a fire next to the fireplace.  Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames.

No one was injured but the fire did cause an estimated $20,000 in damage.
