The Iowa Lottery says the Mega Millions game is getting a makeover in October.

The changes mean a higher starting jackpot, an increase in the game’s second place prize, and faster growing jackpots.

The price of a Mega Millions ticket will remain at $1 but there are some changes that will mean different odds of winning. Players will have a better chance at winning a lesser prize, but the odds mean it will be more difficult to win the jackpot.

The changes are being implemented for the October 22nd Mega Millions drawing. The starting jackpot will now be $15 million, compared to the previous jackpot of $12 million.

The numbers players can choose from are also changing, increasing from a pool of 56 to 75 for the five balls. The Mega Ball choices will decrease from a pool of 46 to 15.

Matching five numbers but missing the Mega Ball will net a winner $1 million. That’s an increase from the previous prize of $250,000.
