The City of Johnston voted in favor of plans for a new main gateway to the city.

The redevelopment will take in 123-acres along Merle Hay Road starting at Interstate 35/80 and traveling north to NW 55th Avenue.

The council wants to redevelop the hotel in the area with a marquee project and improve the entire area to create a better entrance into the city.

Officials say the 20-year project will begin Tuesday.
