It was a close vote, but the Indianola city council has approved a plan to sell of part of a street to Simpson College.

The sale covers North C Street from Girard to Clinton avenues. The college wants to close the street and make it a pedestrian walkway.

Some critics say that would limit neighborhood parking, impact safety at Irving Elementary, and prevent traffic from moving to the north side of Indianola.

The Simpson College president says the school wants to keep the street open until spring of 2014.

A judge denied an attempted injunction of the sale on Friday.

Council members voted 3 to 2 on the sale.
