Des Moines police are investigating two shootings that took place early Wednesday morning, one of which forced a man to seek treatment at a hospital.

Police say they were called to the first shooting at 1439 17th Street a little after 2:00 a.m. on a fight where shots may have been fired. When police arrived they discovered to shell casings in the street. Witnesses, who had been hanging out outside of nearby homes say they didn’t hear anything. No arrests were made.

The second shooting was reported at 3:44 a.m. after 38-year-old Brett Hensley was dropped off at the emergency room at Broadlawns, suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

Hensley told police he was walking on SW 9th at County Line Road when he heard a “pop” and felt the impact of bullet in his leg. Hensley says a female good Samaritan stopped and drove him to the hospital, but did not stick around.

Police plan to examine security video of Hensley’s arrival at the hospital to try to identify the woman who dropped him off and corroborate his story.
