Some Des Moines college and high school students will soon have an improved place to play ball.

AIB and Des Moines Public School District teamed up to pay for upgrades to the Lincoln High School baseball and softball fields.

School leaders met Friday to break ground on the project.

Under the five-year contract the district will be responsible for most maintenance.

Once work is complete AIB’s new softball and baseball program will use the field for practice and home games.

“We are all really in this business together called education,” says AIB athletics director, Al Dorenkamp .

“We want to provide experience for our young people to grow and development and part of that growth and development can certainly take place on the athletic arena and on these athletic fields.”

The groundbreaking was scheduled for earlier this week but was postponed due to rain.
