One person was killed, another seriously injured when their pick-up went off the road early this morning.  It happened around 2:30 AM in the 7900 block of NE 29th St.

“Just a loud boom and yeah it shook the whole house,” says neighbor Mary Walker.

Police showed up a few minutes later after a neighbor called 911.

“He entered the ditch right over there,” says Walker.

From there, orange paint shows the path pick-up took.  Neighbors say the truck hit a culvert and popped the cover off before finally coming to a rest in Four Mile Creek.

“The vehicle was turned on its side and they were trying to pop the windows so they could pull the people out,” says Walker.

One man was air lifted to Methodist Hospital.  The other didn`t make it.  The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the men’s names.

“I came down just to have closure,” says Kim Leichliter.

She had to see the crash site for herself.  Leichliter says she's still in shock after learning about her friend's death.

“Everything from the top of head to the bottom of my feet were numb,” she says.

Leichliter describes the victim as loving father who always there for his family.

“Very, very close friend.  Actually they live a couple houses down from me.  We're kind of like family there.“

The Polk County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the crash.
