Hundreds laced up their running shoes to remember two best friends who died too soon.

Deerwood Park in Evansdale hosted the Forever Young 5K on Saturday.    It’s being held in memory of Lindsay Nichols and her classmate Kelsey Lee.

Nichols was killed in a murder-suicide last year.

Lee died two years ago from cancer.

Saturday’s run raised money for scholarships in their memory.

“The 5K is a way to continue to honor our daughters, keep their memory alive and keep their passion that they had for the medical field out there.   Hopefully we can give others an opportunity to continue on in the medical field by awarding these scholarships to students,” said Jan Nichols, mother of Lindsay.

The proceeds from the event will be used to fund the Forever Young Memorial Scholarship, which goes to two students pursuing medical careers.
