Authorities are investigating after a construction worker was killed in Warren County, Thursday afternoon.
Police say a semi travelling northbound on Highway 65 hit the man near Stone Street one mile north of Liberty Center at around 3:30 p.m.
The worker was directing traffic at the time.
“The northbound traffic was stopped at the time of the crash and the semi failed to stop at the road construction stop sign and subsequently struck the worker at the scene,” explained Trooper Chris Spencer.
Iowa State Patrol say the semi driver left the scene and was later stopped south of Indianola on Hwy 65.
The driver is being held in the Warren County jail.
Officials say the investigation is ongoing and that charges are pending.
The driver’s name and the name of the worker who was killed have not been released.
