Authorities say Iowa tobacco retailers are doing a good job of keeping the restricted product out of the hands of the state’s youth.

The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division says 93-percent of retailers were following the rules during checks in the past fiscal year. That number ties 2010 for the highest compliance rate achieve since tracking began in 1994.

Authorities say most of Iowa’s 3,400 tobacco outlets were checked at least once during the year.
