A new event for central Iowa made its way to the streets of Des Moines on Sunday.

“You almost have to see this event to say it’s not a food fair or a craft show.  It’s not like Ingersoll Live, it’s just a different event,” said Carl Voss.

The event is called Des Moines Move and its purpose is to promote neighborhoods and wellness.

Along University Avenue and in the Drake neighborhood, 18 city blocks were closed off for Des Moines Move.  The roads were then used for games, activities and street performances.

Families who attended the event said this was exactly what the neighborhood needed.

Organizers hope to have two to three similar street events like this in coming years.
