The Health Insurance Marketplace opened Tuesday morning and so far not a single Iowan has signed up online.

It’s because the healthcare website has been riddled with bugs and isn’t working.

During an interview on Iowa Press, Insurance Commissioner Nick Gerhart said the website is maintained by the federal government and that the problems are on that end.

Gerhart says anyone hoping to buy insurance through the exchange should wait at least a week.

On Friday, the Department of Health and Human Services said 8.6 million people had visited since Tuesday.

The website is set for maintenance over the weekend to improve the overloaded site.

Customers have until December 15th to sign on in order to receive insurance starting January 1st.

I have registered as a user and looked at plans but have yet to make a decision as to what plan to select.
