Three Des Moines neighborhoods are getting a big boost to become more energy efficient.

The Save Some Green neighborhood initiative was rolled out Friday morning. It’s a combined effort by the city of Des Moines, the Center on Sustainable Communities, Green Iowa Americorps and MidAmerican Energy.

Starting Friday, representatives from each organization will work together to establish an awareness of energy usage and promote energy efficiency programs to homeowners who live in the chosen neighborhoods.

Those communities include: Beaverdale, Gray’s Lake and Lower Beaver.

“It’s a really exciting project to help promote energy efficiency, and to raise energy awareness throughout the communities,” says MidAmerican spokesperson Abby Bottenfield.

If the projects are successful, the program will be expanded to two other neighborhoods.
