Gov. Terry Branstad thanked Homeland Security agents for their efforts during the weekend tornadoes in the northwest Iowa and other recent storms Tuesday. Branstad gave his thanks during the 11th Annual Homeland Security Conference in Des Moines.
“Unfortunately 2013 has been quite an active year for disasters. Just this past Friday several counties in the northwest part of Iowa were impacted by tornadoes and severe storms. Thankfully there were no injuries or deaths,” says Branstad.
The governor says he wanted to thank emergency managers for the work they do to protect their communities in times of disaster.
The conference runs through Wednesday. Participants are learning about warning systems, animal rescue, coordinating disaster volunteers and using social media for crisis communication.
