A Utah woman was killed in an early morning crash on I-80 in Jasper County Tuesday.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened on westbound I-80 at mile marker 176 at 12:09 a.m. The investigation shows a Ryder rental truck carrying three people went off the right shoulder of the road, rolled, and ejected one of the passengers.

When deputies arrived they found two people injured and one person trapped underneath the vehicle. The person under the vehicle, 64-year-old Kathleen Kariya, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fifty-nine-year-old Glen Kariya and 61-year-old Linda Arita were taken to Skiff Medical Center in Newton for treatment. Their conditions haven’t been made available.

The Kariyas are from Utah and Arita is from California.

An Iowa State Patrol crash report shows Arita was driving the truck at the time of the accident.

The investigation into the crash continues.
