Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley released a Government Accountability Office report Tuesday showing additional changes are needed to the eligibility requirements for being actively involved in farming.

Grassley says the report shows there's far too much subterfuge of the law, and that in one case, taxpayers are footing the bill for farm payments to 11 active managers of one farm, all whom supposedly provide significant management experience, but don’t perform any labor.

He says the loophole has stood for too long, and that now is the time to close it once and for all to maintain a safety net for the farmers who really need it. Grassley adds that the report bolsters his payment limits provisions in the Senate and House farm bills, which he says should stay untouched.
