The flu has arrived in Iowa, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health.

In the last three months, three cases have been identified in Eastern and Central Iowa.

Both cases were Type A, which is the strain that causes more serious illness.  However, none of the individuals to be diagnosed with the flu were hospitalized.

Health care providers are not required to notify the Department of Public Health each time a patient tests positive for the flu, said health care officials.  Because they are not required to notify the department, it is likely there are more than three flu cases in Iowa this season.

Health officials urge everyone to get a flu shot as soon as possible and most counties do offer flu shot clinics.
