A Winterset man has been found guilty of two counts of first degree murder.

According to the Des Moines Register, a Polk County judge delivered the guilty verdict for 40-year-old Ronald Hawkinson Tuesday morning.

Officials say Hawkinson shot and killed Sam Hidic and Robert Smoot at Seibert Trucking in Des Moines in May of 2012.

Hawkinson opted for a bench trial, meaning the judge decided the verdict and not a jury.

He faces a mandatory term of life in prison. Hawkinson’s sentencing is scheduled for December 3rd.
