HUNGER SUMMIT: Mary’s Meals Founder Keynotes Event
The annual Iowa Hunger Summit got underway Tuesday as part of World Food Prize week.
The founder and CEO of Mary’s Meals, Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, was the keynote speaker of the event.
Mary’s Meals is an organization that provides free daily meals to nearly 800-thousand kids living in the poorest parts of the world.
Several people who support Mary’s Meals attended the summit including Ellen Miller of Indianola.
Miller’s 24-year-old took a position with the organization in Africa.
“He finds when he brings food to the school it really offers the children hope and hope is what they all need to go on a live that future that we all hope to dream of,” Miller said.
Summit participants also attended a series of workshops that focused on several topics including understanding hunger in Iowa and how to establish a community garden.
