A suspicious item found on Iowa State University’s camps Wednesday morning has been identified.

The Iowa State University Police say the item was a sock stuffed with non-explosive styrofoam.

A university spokesperson says the item was discovered shortly before 9:00 a.m. near The Hub and Parks Library. Iowa State University Police originally evacuated The Hub and asked people to avoid the area near Parks Library as well.

After consulting with the ISU Police arson investigator and the Ames Fire Department, officials called for assistance from the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

All areas were open again just before 11:30 a.m. after it was determined there was no threat from the item.
