The House and Senate Agriculture Committee leaders met to make plans for this week’s long-awaited Farm Bill conference.
The first formal conference meeting could be scheduled as early as next week, depending on the House and Senate schedules, according to a spokesman for the House Agriculture Chair Frank Lucas.
The House and Senate take turns chairing the Farm Bill conferences. Lucas will serve as chair for this year’s conference as the 2008 conference was chaired by then-Senate Agriculture Chair Tom Harkin.
The House will hold its first conference meeting next week if the House is in session, according to Lucas. If the House is in recess, the conference’s first meeting will take place the following week.
