A Des Moines High School got a visit from a popular rap artist on Saturday.

Chingy talked with the North High School Football players about pursuing their passion.

The rapper said he can relate to the students’ upbringing in poor neighborhoods but that he hopes to inspire them by his own rags to riches story.

“Whatever you want to be in life just put your mind to it.  Focus on it because you can do it, I’m living proof,” Chingy said.

Chingy, whose real name is Howard Bailey Jr., is best known for his chart topping hits, ‘Right Thurr’ and ‘Holidae Inn’.

Chingy is in Des Moines for a concert on Saturday night.
