Now that the government has reopened, history lovers got the chance to honor President Herbert Hoover.

Sunday marked the 49th anniversary of Hoover’s death.  Organizers held a ceremony at his burial site in West Branch.

Sunday’s remembrance ceremony almost did not happen as the site was closed as a result of the government shutdown.

The government shutdown caused the museum to cancel a speaker and a concert that were supposed to be a part of the anniversary festivities.  The group said they hope to reschedule the concert for February.
