Democratic representative Dave Loebsack says the government needs to try and get the economy back on track.

He spent some time in Davenport over the weekend. The congressman visited the Second District American Legion Conference and spoke about military and veterans issues.

Loebsack then made a stop in Iowa City the next day to speak with veterans.

He says Congress needs to find a way to avoid another federal government shutdown.

“They’ve got a lot of concerns just like the rest of the country. The shutdown, the deficit, all these other kinds of things that are principal concerns to military and veterans, but it’s not just that. They’re like everybody else. They’ve got to pay their bills and do the things they need to do,” says Loebsack.

He says he plans to tackle the Farm Bill next.

Loebsack says the sooner a Farm Bill is in place, the better it’ll be for farmers and the nation’s economy.
