An Iowa-owned race horse that ran in the Kentucky Derby has died following a sudden illness.

“Iowa’s Horse” Dullahan died Sunday morning after coming down with a severe case of colic. The news comes just one week after Dullahan was officially retired from racing.

Dullahan was owned by Donegal Racing Group and local attorney Jerry Crawford.

The horse won almost $2 million dollars in his short career, and finished 3rd in the 2012 Kentucky Derby.

Dullahan was four-years-old.
