AGRIBUSINESS: Water Projects Bill Timeline Cast Into Doubt
After longtime Florida representative Bill Young passed away last Friday, the timeline for U.S. House consideration of its 2013 Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA) has been cast into doubt.
Among other things, a new WRRDA bill would support the nation’s aging waterways infrastructure, specifically the crumbling locks and dams on the Mississippi River, which is an export destination for many Iowa crops.
While House Majority Leader Eric Cantor stated over the weekend that WRRDA will be considered Wednesday or Thursday of this week, the House’s Thursday session has been canceled for Young’s funeral, and it’s unclear if WRRDA will be deliberated on during the Wednesday session.
Regardless of the week’s outcome, the House appears set to consider WRRDA before the end of the month.
