The man elected to represent Iowa House District 33 in Tuesday’s special election received a congratulatory call from one of the highest offices in the land.

According to The Huffington Post, Democrat Brian Meyer, got a call Wednesday night from Vice President Joe Biden. Meyer says he was watching game one of the World Series at Applebee’s when the call came in.

“I was obviously surprised, and I didn’t think anyone was paying attention to a little special election in the middle of Iowa. It was a pleasant surprise to hear from the vice president,” Meyer told The Huffington Post.

Meyer won the spot in the Iowa House by soundly defeating Republican Michael Young. The unconfirmed totals had Meyer with 79-percent of the vote.

Meyer replaces House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who resigned to accept a job in the Iowa Attorney General’s Office.
