Safely get rid of your unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs this Saturday.

The Johnston Police Department teamed up with the Drug Enforcement Agency to give the public the safe and anonymous opportunity to get rid of unwanted prescription drugs.

The drug take back event helps to prevent the misuse of prescriptions for accidental overdose or poisoning as well as to prevent prescription drug abuse.  The event also allows the DEA to safely dispose of the unwanted medications, instead of forcing people to flush the medicine down the toilet or throw it away, which can create public safety or environmental hazards.

Last year, the Johnston drug take back event collected more than 100 pounds of unwanted prescription medications.

To take advantage of the drug take back event, simply bring your unwanted medications to Johnston City Hall between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Oct. 26.  The drug take back service is free and anonymous.
