Neonatal specialists are an important part of the birth process and their fast response can be critical to the life of a newborn.  UnityPoint Health – Des Moines has neonatal intensive care coverage at Blank Children’s Hospital, Methodist West and Iowa Lutheran maternity centers.

Wendy Gradwell, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Blank Children’s Hospital says, "Neonatal Nurse Practitioners serve as primary caregivers for premature infants and other newborns that require special care due to low birth weight, respiratory distress, congenital heart defects, or various other abnormalities and disorders."

All the maternity centers at UnityPoint Health – Des Moines have board-certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioners onsite 24/7 to provide care to your newborn should the need arise.

Gradwell says, "We are proud to offer our expertise onsite for families delivering at Methodist West and Iowa Lutheran.  The care Blank Children’s Hospital provides to our patients is unmatched by any hospital in central Iowa."
