While one big metro road project is complete another is just beginning.

Authorities cut the ribbon on a new portion of the SW Connector Thursday. The addition connects Southwest 11th Street to Highway 28 or First Street in West Des Moines.

The newest portion of the road cost $12-million in city and federal funds.

On Friday morning, officials will break ground on new Interstate-80 interchange.

Waukee and West Des Moines are building a connection at Alice’s Road. The initial phase of the project will cost $13-million.

Construction is expected to be complete by the end of next year.
