DIABETES AWARENESS: Regular Checkups, Stay Healthy

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month and Dr. Melissa Billings from the Vision Park Family Eye Care stopped by for some healthy reminders.

More than seven percent of Iowans are diagnosed with diabetes, a number that has nearly doubled over the last decade.  Because diabetes is the leading cause of preventable blindness, health care professionals like Dr. Billings encourage people to regularly get their eyes checked by a professional.

New tests allow doctors to see if diabetic and pre-diabetic patients are at risk of losing their vision and what they can do about it.
