A Des Moines man is in the Polk County Jail after leading sheriff’s deputies on a short chase with his children in the car Monday morning.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says they were called about a domestic dispute involving 23-year-old Charles Senase. He was spotted driving in the 1700 block of 2nd Avenue around 10:30 a.m.

Deputies tried to pull him over but he refused to stop. He led them on a chase for several blocks, finally stopping at 2nd and Franklin. The chase did not exceed 40 miles per hour.

Senase was taken into custody without further incident. Deputies say there were three small children in the car during the chase and none of them were wearing seatbelts. The children were not harmed and are being cared for by relatives.

Senase is charged with domestic assault, eluding, three counts of child endangerment, and three charges of failure to secure a child. He was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for non-payment of child support.
