CANCER FIGHT: Prognosis Worsens For Justin

For most of his life, 13-year old Justin Chey has helped care for his elderly grandparents while his mother worked. That is, until Justin got brain cancer. Now, he’s taken a turn for the worse.

"Justin had an MRI done yesterday and the results have come out earlier," Justin's mother, Kelly Chey said. "They find out that Justin has more disease in his brain."

Last week, Justin had surgery to remove the brain tumor. But Saturday, doctors discovered the cancer traveled to his spine and other parts of his brain. He was rushed to Blank Chilcren's Hospital, and even had to miss his 13th birthday party.

"I really did, I wanted to go to my own party. I heard it was fun. There were a lot of people," Justin said. "Right now my grandparents are in the hospital too. I don't know why but they are here and everything just makes me want to cry right now."

Because she is taking care of her son, Justin’s mother has not been able to work at her job as a custodian for Lincoln High School.

If you would like to help the Chey family, an account has been set up for Justin at Ed-Co Community Credit Union, 609 38th Street in Des Moines.
