Voters are heading to the polls Tuesday to fill mayoral positions and positions on city councils.

In Des Moines, voters will choose between five people who are running for the Ward One seat. In Ward Three, candidates include incumbent Christine Hensley and challengers David Rosenfeld and Cal Woods. Incumbent Skip Moore is being challenged by Chris Diebel for the at large seat.

We caught up with the first few voters at Precinct 66, in the 1800 block of Bell Avenue Tuesday morning.

One voter has been on the phone the past couple of weeks, encouraging other people living in Des Moines to get out and vote.

“We can’t have any change in the city of Des Moines if we don’t get out and vote for the right people for the offices for the city of Des Moines,” says voter Joe Madonia.

Polls are open until 8:00 p.m. You can find your polling place on the Polk County Auditor’s website.
