The Iowa Worker’s Compensation Commissioner, Chris Godfrey, was awarded the Judicial Achievement Award Thursday.

“I’m just very excited to be honored,” Godfrey said. “You know looking back at some of the people that have won in the past I think it`s a great honor. So I’m quite excited.”

The Iowa Association for Justice says this award is in recognition of his public service and exemplary dedication in office.

Earlier this year, Godfrey filed a federal lawsuit against Governor Branstad for discrimination.

It came after Branstad reduced Godfrey`s salary by a third when he refused to resign. Godfrey claims it’s because he’s gay.

The Iowa Supreme Court is now determining how the case should proceed.
